We frequently have IDC candidates who are not comfortable with Physics or the Dive Tables (especially The Wheel) or they are unable to perform pool skills or rescues to demonstration quality. During the IDC Preparation Course we will work closely with you to eliminate your individual difficulties, before the IDC begins. During the IDC you can then concentrate on preparing your IDC assignments, rather than devoting time to reviewing material and skills you should have covered thoroughly in your Divemaster Course.

First, you will take a series of simulated Instructor-level academic exams to help us identify your individual problem areas. Then we conduct an academic review tailored to your specific needs. The second half of the day is spent in confined water bringing your pool skills and rescue technique up to demonstration quality. The IDC Preparation Course is usually conducted the day preceding the IDC itself.

PADI Instructor Development Course (8 days).

The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the core of the PADI Instructor training process. The goal of the program is to prepare you to function as an effective PADI Instructor by thoroughly familiarizing you with the PADI system and all its diver training programs. You will draw upon your current skills and knowledge while learning how to conduct classroom, pool and open water teaching sessions. While successful completion of the IDC will prepare you to easily pass the Instructor Examination, this is not the focus of the course we conduct at EASE. Our program is specifically designed to arm you with the basic skills and knowledge you will need to begin your career as a scuba Instructor.  Please note that the IDC processing fee is not included in the IDC course fee and must be paid to PADI. IDC Prerequisites: IDC Candidates should be certified as a PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or Instructor from another diver training organization. They must be at least 18years old, have been certified as a diver for 6 months and have 60 logged dives (including experience in deep, night and navigation diving). 

Candidates must also have proof of completing CPR and first aid training within the previous 24 months, and provide documentation of having a medical examination within the previous 12 months showing fitness for diving. 

Candidates who have completed any of their previous training through diver training organizations other than PADI, must be able to provide copies of their certification cards or other documentation.  

Independent Learning Prerequisites:

Prior to the start of the Instructor Development Course, candidates are required to have completed all 16 Knowledge Reviews in the Instructor Candidate Workbook.

PADI Instructor Examination (2 days).

A PADI Instructor Examination (IE) is conducted every month in Vero Beach over the two days immediately following the EASE IDC. This program is independently conducted by an Instructor Examiner who is a member of PADI headquarters staff.  This ensures that the evaluation process is objective, impartial and consistent.  During the two day program your knowledge of diving theory and the PADI system will be evaluated, as will your ability to deliver teaching presentations in the classroom, pool and open water. IE Prerequisites: 100 logged dives and certified as a diver for 6 months.  However, candidates who complete a CDC Program (which includes at least 5 other pre-IDC or post-IDC courses) are authorized by PADI to take the IE with only 60 logged dives and have been certified as a diver for 6 months.
